The entire upper zone of the Alamedin district of the Chui region was disconnected from the Internet and mobile communications. According to the supporters of A. Ravshan Jeenbekov told K. Asanov that six special forces of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic would remain at Almazbek Atambayev’s residence until the morning as a guarantee that law enforcement agencies would not take any military action against supporters of the ex-president of the Kyrgyz Republic. Representatives of the People’s Headquarters showed a video of the detained commandos, noting that their wounded comrades were sent to hospitals.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Internal Affairs units are squeezed on the Bishkek-Koy-Tash highway from two sides by residents of the upper zone of the Alamedin region, whose numbers are growing.Representatives of the People’s Headquarters urged not to succumb to provocations and not to cause unrest.

It should be noted that more than 1000 people are located near the house of Atambaev and inside. The attempt to capture the ex-president of the Kyrgyz Republic by the special unit of the State Committee for National Security was unsuccessful.

As a result, some of the special forces were captured by Atambayev’s supporters, while others managed to escape along the ravine near Atambayev’s house, crossing the river, which flows next to the ex-president’s mansion.

CNS representatives also said that A. Atambayev’s supporters from different regions of Kyrgyzstan had already begun to leave for Bishkek.

Charges against Atambayev

On June 27, Kyrgyzstan’s parliament voted to strip Atambayev of immunity and ex-president status. The former president’s lawyer said the move ran counter to the country’s Constitution.

Atambayev is suspected of being involved in corruption schemes related to the reconstruction of Bishkek’s thermal power plant and Historical Museum, the unlawful release of crime boss Aziz Batukayev and illegal deliveries of coal to Bishkek’s thermal power plants, as well as in reassigning plots of land in the country’s Issyk-Kul region and illegally obtaining a plot of land to build a residential house in the Koi-Tash settlement, Chuy region.

The former president claims that the country’s incumbent head of state is persecuting him for political reasons. Atambayev earlier ignored three interrogation requests issued by the Interior Ministry and warned that he would offer armed resistance against attempts to arrest him.

Atambayev served as Kyrgyz president in 2011-2017. He was the country’s first head of state to step down after his first term in office had expired. In the spring of 2018, Atambayev admitted that he had strong differences with incumbent President Sooronbay Jeenbekov.
