President Sadyr Japarov has signed the order scheduling the parliamentary elections for November 28, APA reports citing AKIPress.
In accordance with the Constitution adopted through the nation-wide referendum on April 11, the Parliament will consist of 90 MPs elected for a 5-year term.
The order of election of the Parliament is determined by the constitutional law.
The amendments into the constitutional law on presidential and parliamentary elections regulating a new order of election of the Parliament entered into force on August 27.
The amendments foresee a mixed system for elections of MPs. 54 MPs will be elected on proportional representation system (lists of candidates of political parties) from one electoral district. 36 MPs will be elected based on majority system from single-mandate constituencies.
Thus, change of number of MPs, requirements for candidates, introduction of a new electoral system requires scheduling and conduct of new elections of the Parliament.
In accordance with the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, the parliamentary elections are scheduled by the President.
The executive order entered into force on August 29.
