Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced Monday the holding of a telematic summit of G7 leaders a year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, inviting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, APA reports citing Laprensalatina.

Kishida confirmed the Friday virtual summit during a meeting of his ruling Liberal Democratic Party.

Japan, which this year holds the rotating G7 presidency of the world’s most developed countries, said through Kishida that it hopes Friday’s meeting will reaffirm their unity against Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, according to state news agency Kyodo.

The Japanese presidency of the G7 organized a face-to-face meeting of its foreign ministers Saturday in Munich, Germany, on the sidelines of the Security Conference.

During the meeting, ministers demanded that “third countries” not offer military support to Russia and reiterated their intention to continue intensifying sanctions against Moscow and supporting Kiev “as long as it takes,” according to Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi.
