Iran has suspended the construction of a petrochemical plant on the Miyankale Peninsula in the northern province of Mazandaran, APA's Tehran bureau reports.

The reason for the suspension is the damage caused to the environment by the construction of the petrochemical plant.

Iran's Deputy Chairman of the Environment Organization Masoud Alikhani has written a letter to the Amirabad petrochemical company in Mazandaran province demanding the suspension of the Miyankale petrochemical project.

The letter stipulates that additional research be carried out for the implementation of the plant's project and that the country's Environmental Organization approves the research.

Iranian Oil Minister Javad Oji also confirmed that the construction of the Miyankale petrochemical plant has been suspended and said that they will abide by the decision of the country's Environment Organization on the project.

It should be noted that the planned construction of a petrochemical plant near the Miyankale reserve will pose a threat to the environment, the Caspian Sea and the birds in the reserve.
