48 people died from counterfeit alcohol in Iran

In Iran, 48 people have died and hundreds have been hospitalized due to methanol consumption in four provinces, APA reports citing Iran Hemshahri newspaper.

Those involved in producing counterfeit alcohol have been arrested.

According to a report by the Iran Hemshahri newspaper, hundreds of people in the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, Hamadan, and Zanjan have been poisoned due to the consumption of counterfeit alcohol in the last two weeks. Among those hospitalized due to severe poisoning from methanol in these four provinces, 48 have died, and some have completely lost their vision.

Accordingly, 21 people died from poisoning in Mazandaran, 15 in Gilan, 11 in Hamadan, and 1 in Zanjan. It was reported that individuals producing and selling counterfeit alcohol have been identified and arrested.
