EU sets strict conditions for financial aid to Ukraine

Brussels has rejected Ukraine’s request for additional financial assistance this year, APA reports, citing the Financial Times.

According to the report, the EU has demanded that Kyiv implement the reforms it has promised in order for future financing to continue.

Ukraine, estimating its additional defense needs at 27 billion euros, asked the European Commission for the early disbursement of funds from the 90 billion-euro loan package agreed by the EU at the end of last year.

However, Brussels rejected the request for the early release of funds earmarked for 2027. Instead, it said Kyiv could gain access to around 34 billion euros in EU assistance this year if it implements certain reforms.

The conditions for the financing also include abolishing the VAT exemption for small parcels and introducing new taxation rules for digital platforms.
