A crude oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile about four nautical miles east of the coast of Oman, APA reports.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the tanker was hit while sailing outbound from the Strait of Hormuz.
The strike caused a small fire and a power outage on board. The fire was later extinguished, and the vessel continued its voyage.
No crew members were injured in the incident. There are currently no reports of environmental damage.
It has not been established what type of weapon fired the projectile or who was responsible for the attack.
Relevant authorities are investigating the incident.
Some sources have identified the tanker as the “Kazimah III,” belonging to the Kuwait Oil Company, but UKMTO did not provide the vessel’s name or ownership details in its initial statement.
