Baklu-APA. A police officer and four policemen were killed and two others injured Wednesday in two bomb attacks in central Iraq, the police said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

In Iraq’s central province of Babil, three roadside bombs went off almost simultaneously near the convoy of Lieutenant Colonel Salman al-Khazraji, chief of al-Rafidian police station in the town of Jbela, some 60 km south of the capital Baghdad, a provincial police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The blasts killed the officer, his diver and one of his bodyguards, and wounded two others, the source said.

The town is part of the once restive area, dubbed Triangle of Death, which is a cluster of towns scattered between south of Baghdad and north of Hilla city, the capital of Babil province, some 100 km south of Baghdad.

In a separate incident, two policemen were killed in a roadside bomb explosion near their checkpoint in a village outside the city of Balad, some 80 km north of Baghdad, a local police source anonymously told Xinhua.

Violence and sporadic high profile attacks are still common in the Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease of violence over the past few years.
