Iranian president visits quake-hit areas

During the visit, Ahmadinejad received first hand information on aid shipment and distribution among the quake-torn citizens, APA reports quoting IRNA. Interior minister Mustafa mohammad Najjar, road and town planning minister Ali Nikzad, agriculture minister Sadig Khalilian, minister of culture and Islamic values Mohammad Hosseini, vice president Behruz Muradi and Red Crescent Society chairman Mohammad Fagih accompanied the president during the visit.

Ahmadinejad met with the residents of most suffered villages – Zaghnabad and Zangabad. He ordered removing problems of the people within shortest possible time.

The quakes struck East Azerbaijan Province on August 11, flattening villages and injuring thousands of people around the towns of Ahar, Varzaqan and Haris, near Tabriz. According to the official statistics, 306 people were killed and 3037 injured. Up to 17,000 people were reportedly displaced, falling in need of shelter.
