Baku-APA. Protesters clashed with riot police in Bahrain’s capital Manama on Wednesday after the culmination of the religious Ashura festival, forcing the authorities to beef up security measures at the airport and malls, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The Bahraini Interior Ministry said in a statement that about 350 individuals had violated the law and started to move into areas that were not designated or approved for religious gatherings.

Security forces had taken necessary measures to control the situation, the ministry said.

More security forces have been deployed around the Bahrain International Airport, some major malls and supermarkets.

The accesses to the villages of Sanabis and Daih, where Shiite Muslims held religious rituals for Ashura in the past few days, were closed by the authorities. Security forces, including the Bahrain Defense Force, were present near the village.

Daih is located near Manama’s Al Farooq junction, formerly known as Pearl roundabout, the focal point of the country’s anti- government protests in March.

The interior ministry said earlier Wednesday that a 27-year-old Bahraini woman named Zahra Saleh Mohammed from Daih died from injuries sustained on Nov. 18 during protests.
