Baku-APA. South Korea has put its military on high alert in response to suspicious troop movements by North Korea near the disputed maritime border of the two countries, Yonhap news agency reported on Wednesday, citing an official in the South Korean government who requested to remain anonymous, APA reports quoting RIA Novosti.

According to Yonhap, North Korean ground-to-air missiles have been moved toward South Korea’s northernmost island of Baengnyeong. The agency also reported that the reclusive North has also placed mobile short-range rocket launchers near the disputed maritime border.

In August, North Korea fired artillery at the South and the South responded with return fire.

The North shelled Yeonpyeong Island last November, killing four people, just months after the alleged North Korean sinking of a South Korean warship.

The two Koreas, who technically remain at war following the 1950-53 Korean War, agreed last July to return to six-party talks aimed at ending North Korea’s nuclear program.
