Baku-APA. A civilian was killed and eight people wounded Tuesday in separate gunfire and bomb attacks in central and eastern Iraq, the police said, APA reports.

In Iraq’s eastern province in Diyala, gunmen using assault rifles shot dead a villager in front of his house at a rural area near the provincial capital city of Baquba, 65 km northeast of Baghdad, the source from Diyala’s operations command told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Also in the province, Iraqi security forces carried out search operations during the past 24 hours and arrested 15 suspects, including six wanted individuals and found three caches of weapons and defused four roadside bombs, the source said.

Near Baghdad, gunmen planted bombs in the house of a leader of a local Awakening Council group, or Sahwah in Arabic, and blow them up in the village of al-Zaidan in Abu Ghrib area, some 20 km west of Baghdad, wounding a woman and five children, an Interior Ministry source anonymously told Xinhua.

The Awakening Council group consists of armed groups, including some powerful anti-U.S. Sunni insurgent groups which fought al- Qaida militants in the Sunni Arab areas after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

In a separate incident, two civilians were wounded when a bomb hidden in their car went off in a main road in southeast of the Fallujah city, some 50 km west of Baghdad, the source added.

Violence has decreased in Iraq since its peak in 2006 and 2007 when the country was engulfed in sectarian killings, but deadly bombings and shootings still occur on daily basis.
