Syria determined to go on with reform: defense minister

Baku-APA. Syrian Defense Minister Dawoud Rajha said Saturday that Syria is determined to go on with the process of reform and development to make Syria at the forefront of the democratic states in the region, warning that Syria would never tolerate any violent acts aiming to destabilize the country.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony of the military college students, Rajha said the events Syria is passing through are not newly born but rather an extension of challenges it has faced during the past years.

He said some parties are calling for foreign intervention "to ruin the country and divert it from its principles," adding that these calls were made clear through the fabrication of false news and events to mislead the world public opinion.

He charged that the "conspirators" have used armed terrorist groups to carry out their plans on ground through killing military cadres, scientists and intellectuals and spreading sabotage and destruction.

"This however would never dissuade the political leadership from continuing the process of reforms," he said, adding that Syria would be the "forefront of the democratic countries in the region and would firmly confront whoever might think of messing with the country’s security, unity, stability and civil peace."
