"Terrorists" gun down senior officer in central Syria

Baku-APA. A senior army officer was assassinated by the gunshots of armed "terrorist groups" in Syria’ s central province of Homs, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Brigadier General Nael al-Dukheel was killed in the al-Fayroza area of Homs, which has lately witnessed violent acts that claimed the lives of many army personnel and security agents, SANA said.

In a separate incident, Mohammad Ali Akeel, a professor at Homs Faculty of Architecture, was murdered by a terrorist group, SANA said, adding that Akeel was shot and stabbed.

Also in Homs, terrorist groups kidnapped two members of a family in the al-Bayyadah area and tried to kidnap the head of the neighborhood’s committee, Marwan al-Rai, who was shot in his thigh during the kidnapping attempt, according to SANA.

Meanwhile, activist group Local Coordination Committees (LCC) said 15 people were killed Monday in clashes with security forces across Syria, but their report could not be verified as journalists are banned from heading to the restive areas.

Syria has been wracked by six months of unrest, which the authorities blame on foreign conspiracy and armed thugs.

A recent UN report put the number of civilians gunned down by security forces in Syria during the past six months at 2,600, but the Syrian government disputed the death toll, saying that 1,400 people have been killed, including members of the security forces.
