Baku-APA. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says he’ll ask the Security Council next week to accept the Palestinians as full members at the United Nations, APA reports quoting Associated Press.

In so doing, Abbas would be risking a threatened U.S. veto.

Israeli police say an Israeli and a Palestinian have been wounded in a confrontation in the West Bank amid rising tensions ahead of a Palestinian bid for statehood at the United Nations.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says a Palestinian man stabbed an Israeli settler near the Palestinian village of Qusra and another settler opened fire, shooting the Palestinian in the leg.

Rosenfeld says both wounded were taken to hospital. Neither has life-threatening injuries.

Village mayor Hani Abu Reideh says the Palestinians threw stones after settlers entered one of their orchards. He denied anyone was stabbed.

On September 5, vandals set fire to a mosque in the same village and scrawled graffiti in Hebrew. Settlers are suspected.
