Baku – APA. The European Parliament adopted resolution calling Syrian President Bashar al Assad to resign.

APA reports quoting “RIA Novosti” that the resolution urges Bashar al Assad and his regime to abandon the government, as well as demands the independent and transparent investigation of death, arrest and violence facts in Syria.

The European parliament also demanded the Syrian government to stop violence against the demonstrators.

The resolution urged UN Security Council members, and in particular Russia and China, to condemn the use of lethal force in Syria and to impose sanctions should the regime fail to put an end to violence.

The death toll during the demonstrations against Bashar al Assad regime in Syria, which started in March 2011, is more than 2200 people. The US and the European Union called Bashar al Assad to resign.
