Israeli airstrike kills Gaza militant

Baku-APA. A Palestinian militant was killed and two others wounded when an Israeli airstrike targeted a group of gunmen in southeastern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, witnesses and security sources said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

A statement issued by the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), the group the militants belonged to, said that an Israeli helicopter fired a missile at the militants, leaving 23-year-old Khaled Sahmoud killed and two more gunmen wounded.

On Aug. 18, an Israeli airstrike killed five leaders of the PRC, which is accused by Israel of involving in deadly attacks in southern Israel Red Sea resort of Eilat the same day.

The PRC responded with firing dozens of rockets into Israel over the coming days, killing two Israelis.

Efforts by Hamas, the Islamic group that controls Gaza, and Egypt succeeded in renewing a shaky ceasefire that has first came into being after the end of Israel’s major offensive here in January 2009.
