Baku-APA. At least two opposition militants were killed and four others injured Saturday in clashes with the government forces in Yemen’s volatile southern province of Taiz, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The clashes occurred Saturday dawn in the Zaid al-Moushki and Raowda neighborhoods in downtown Taiz, the country’s second largest city, between the government’s elite Republican Guards and the opposition-led armed tribesmen who vowed to "protect the seven- month protests."

"Two rebels were killed in the clashes as random shelling that hit neighborhoods of Zaid al-Moushki and Raowda wounded two women and two children," doctors and eyewitnesses told Xinhua.

Taiz, some 200 km south of the capital Sanaa, witnessed deadly clashes between supporters of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his opponents that have left hundreds of people from both sides dead over the past few months.

The new escalation came after the collapse of a third fragile truce last week between the militants of the opposition coalition Joint Meeting Parties and Saleh’s elite Republican Guards, said officials in the mediation committee.
