More than 100 injured in workers-police clash in Bangladesh

Baku-APA. More than 100 people were injured Saturday in a clash between police and workers of a garment factory in Bangladesh’s Narayanganj district, 17 km southeast of capital, private news agency UNB reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

The clash started when several thousands workers of ACS Textiles demanding reduction of working hour to 11 from 15 hours every day took to the street and created blockade on a highway at about 9 am local time. Angry workers damaged about 25 passing vehicles and the blockade created traffic jam on the busy highway.

Police rushed to the spot and chased the demonstrators. Overwhelming number of demonstrators counter chased the police and pelted brickbats. Police fired 7 teargas shells and dozens of rubber bullets upon the demonstrators. More than 100 including 17 police were wounded during the 3-hour fight that ended at 12 noon.

ACS Textile mill manager Shah Bidaz was quoted as saying the demonstrating workers vandalized the factory, caused extensive damage and looted some valuables before coming out of the factrory in the morning.
