Larijani retains position as Parliament Speaker

Baku. Suleyman Farzaliyev - APA. Ali Larijani was reinstated in his position as the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis), APA reports. During the voting conducted in the Parliament’s Wednesday morning session, he managed to get 214 votes in his favor out of 258 cast.
As the only candidate campaigning for the post after two years of heading the legislative body, he will head the Parliament for another 12 months.
The 53-year politician represents Qom constituency in the Parliament. He holds a PHD in western philosophy from Tehran University. Prior to entering the Parliament, he served in such positions as the deputy for ministries of Labor, Post, Telegraph and Telephone, IRGC as well as the acting commander of the IRGC main headquarters. He also headed the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and IRIB. He ran for the 9th presidential elections but failed. Before becoming a Parliament member, Larijani was the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. Mohammad-Hassan Abutorabi-Fard and Shahabeddin Sadr were elected as the first and second vice-speakers of the Majlis respectively.
