“Baku – Islamic Culture Capital 2009” events to start on February 18

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova –APA. A plan of special measures was prepared for the “Baku – Islamic Culture Capital” events in 2009. The events will be opened on February 18, Ministry of Culture and Tourism told APA. The guests arriving from the different countries will visit the Alleys of Honor and Martyr in Baku. Then the delegation will meet with Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev and later will hold a press conference.

The book “Ancient Baku” will be presented in the Museum center on February 18. The guests will tour of the Azerbaijan Museum of History, Maiden Tower, Shirvanshahs Palace and the Old City. Presentation of the Baku – Islamic Culture Capital’s official Internet-site (www.baku-icc-2009.az) will be presented at the same day. Baku- Islamic Cultural Capital 2009 will be inaugurated in the ceremony in Heydar Aliyev Palace in the evening.
ISESCO Secretary General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, IRSICA Director Halit Eren will attend the opening ceremony. Minister of culture of Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries, as well as mayors of Izmir, Houston, Warsaw and other cities will also attend the ceremony.

The opening events will be continued on February 19. The guests will watch the “One Thousand and One Nights” ballet by Fikret Amirov.
The “Baku – Islamic Culture Capital 2009” events will continue throughout the year.
