A local resident, Tevvekul Aliyev, told the APA Bureau that the wooden mosque was then built for 50 years and the woods have already decayed and the ceiling has collapsed.
“Repair work was started in 1978-1980 but left uncompleted then. This mosque was previously used as a place for public worship and medrese (theological elementary school) but was converted to a state farm storehouse during the USSR period,” he added.
Hidayet Aslanov, Officer of Tovuz Culture and Tourism Department, said raw eggs were then used in the construction of the mosque to make its walls more durable.
“There is no plan afoot to repair and reconstruct the mosque in the nearest future. In general, no historical monuments were repaired in this region by the government during recent years,” he noted.
According to him, this monument will completely collapse in a few years if not repaired.
