Zalimkhan Yagub elected as Chairman of Azerbaijan Ashugs Union

In his opening speech at the congress academician Bakir Nabiyev said Ashugs Union held its 1st congress in 1928 and first chairman of the union was Huseyn Arif. Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev has delivered congratulations of President Ilham Aliyev to the congress participants and said the president took direct interest in this congress. â€œFollowing the congress we will work for more development of Azerbaijani ashug art. Our notorious neighbors misappropriated Azerbaijani music, culture and cuisine and now they start misappropriate ashug art too. We will not allow them to do that and will prove to the world peoples that ashug art belongs to Azerbaijanâ€.

Professor Maharram Gasimli has welcomed representatives of neighbor countries and said the congress would play exclusive role in the development of Azerbaijanâ€™s ashug art. â€œUnfortunately the Ashugs Union has functioned disorderly over the past several years and we will stop it todayâ€.

Gasimli said they would elect Governing Board and the board would elect the Chairman and three secretaries. Gazanfar Pashayev and Zalimkhan Yagub have been nominated for the Ashugs Union chairmanship.

Zalimkhan Yagub has been elected as a Chairman of Azerbaijan Ashugs Union.
