US President Donald Trump has signed legislation imposing tough new sanctions on Russia, APA reports.
The legislation is named after the late Senator Lindsey Graham and is titled the “Lindsey O. Graham Russia and Iran Sanctions Act of 2026.”
The law provides for sanctions against Russia’s senior leadership, oligarchs and their family members, companies operating in the banking and energy sectors, as well as vessels linked to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet.”
It also allows sanctions to be imposed on buyers of Russian oil and gas. The US president is authorized to levy tariffs of up to 100% on goods imported from third countries that rank among the largest purchasers of Russian energy resources.
The legislation also permits tariffs of up to 500% on products exported from Russia to the United States.
The bill was passed by the US House of Representatives on September 16 with 262 votes in favor and 159 against. The Senate approved the legislation in August.
