Pentagon assesses threat of armed conflict with China

The United States cautioned to be prepared for a potential armed conflict with China regarding the Taiwan issue, the U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in an interview with CNN, APA reports.

"This is something we must always be prepared for... I don't believe that confrontation is inevitable," he remarked.

Austin also noted that he considers supporting deterrence forces in the Indo-Pacific region as part of their responsibilities.

On July 5th, the Chinese Ministry of Defense issued a statement, warning that the United States sending new weapons to Taiwan would turn the island into a powder keg.

China vehemently protests against this action.

At the end of June, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and Republican Party presidential candidate Nikki Haley believed that the Chinese government was preparing its people for war with Taiwan. According to her, Washington should protect peace using all means at its disposal, including the assistance of its global allies.
