Baku-APA. A severe snow storm that dumped over 70 centimeters in mountainous areas of Montenegro created major traffic problems on the country's highways and forced the closure of Montenegro's main airport in Podgorica, reported Radio Television Serbia (RTS) on Tuesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Montenegro has also been gripped with sub-zero temperatures and suffered power failures in the central and southern parts of the country.

The capital of Podgorica, which rarely sees an accumulation of snow, has recorded 20 centimeters on the ground, with cold weather forecast for the coming days. Traffic in the city was disrupted for hours due to the snow.

On Zabljak, the country's mountain resort, 72 centimeters of snow has already been measured this season, with temperatures dropping to minus 13 degrees Celsius.

Other major Montenegrin towns have experienced about 30 centimeters of snow. Many regional roads and highways have been closed or traffic impaired.
