Baku-APA. The Colombian Navy rescued two fishermen from Jamaica who were drifting in the open sea for about a month, Go-Jamaica reported on Saturday, APA reports.

John Sobah and Everton Gregory from the St Thomas Parish at the southeastern end of Jamaica were carried by a current to the open sea after the engine of their boat failed during a three-day fishing trip. They were declared missing at sea on November 24.

They were eventually spotted by a Colombian helicopter in the country’s territorial waters, after they had drifted for more than 800 km, Associated Press said. Two days later, a boat came to their rescue.

The two men survived by eating fish they had caught and drinking melted ice that had kept the fish fresh, the agency said.

Go-Jamaica said Sobah and Gregory were flown to their homeland after receiving treatment from dehydration, malnutrition and hypothermia in a Colombian hospital.
