Minneapolis police still looking for a motive while the FBI is investigating shooting as hate crime

The FBI is investigating the shooting as “an act of domestic terrorism and hate crimes targeting Catholics,” FBI Director Kash Patel said earlier today. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara later said they don’t have a motive yet to investigate it as a hate crime, APA reports quoting CNN.

However, a former senior FBI official said the charges should not precede the facts.

“The facts lead you to the charges that you can charge,” Katherine Schweit said. “For instance, domestic terrorism: there is no federal domestic terrorism charge. And in fact, there is no state terrorism charge in Minnesota.”

“Hate crimes can come in many, unfortunately, many colors and flavors. But the facts will have to lead us to whether or not this there is some particular hate crime and whether that would be applied in state or federal court,” she added.
