Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev met with President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, who participated in the Third High-Level Meeting of the Heads of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Baku, the Prosecutor General's Office Press Service told APA.
During the meeting, the Prosecutor General provided information about the large-scale reforms implemented in Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, measures taken to improve public administration and strengthen the fight against corruption, as well as the positive results achieved.
The Prosecutor General emphasized that friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been steadily developing in the political, economic, energy, and humanitarian fields. At the same time, it was noted that Saudi Arabia's support for Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity on international platforms, including within the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, is one of the important aspects of bilateral relations.
At the beginning of the meeting, Nazaha President Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for the high-level organization and successful holding of the Third High-Level Meeting of the Heads of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies of OIC Member States. He emphasized the importance of such international events in expanding the exchange of experience in combating corruption, strengthening interstate relations, and promoting joint initiatives.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation status of the memorandum of cooperation signed in November 2023 and the expansion of cooperation within the OECD, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the GlobE Network, and other international platforms. In this context, attention was paid to improving the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms between the parties, strengthening operational contacts between coordinating bodies, expanding information exchange on corruption crimes, and making more effective use of mutual legal assistance opportunities.
The Prosecutor General highly appreciated Saudi Arabia's global anti-corruption initiatives, including its efforts to establish the GlobE Network and implement the Global Initiative to Measure Corruption. As a clear example of Azerbaijan's support for these initiatives, attention was drawn to the holding of the 6th Plenary Meeting and the 10th Steering Committee Meeting of the GlobE Network in Baku in May 2025.
The parties emphasized that combating corruption requires coordinated international and regional cooperation, rather than efforts at the national level alone. In this regard, they exchanged views on expanding the exchange of experience and information in detecting and investigating transnational corruption crimes, identifying, tracing, freezing, confiscating, and returning criminally obtained assets to their rightful owners, as well as organizing the prompt exchange of information in these areas. The use of opportunities provided by international cooperation platforms, professional training of specialists, and increasing the practical results of joint activities were also discussed.
During the meeting, President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous was awarded a medal for his contributions to effective cooperation with the prosecutorial authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan, strengthening bilateral ties in combating corruption, and expanding cooperation and the exchange of experience within international platforms.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Azerbaijan Essam bin Saleh Al-Jutaili, as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Mutallim Mirzayev, also attended the meeting.
