Maduro: Drug transit through Venezuelan territory will be completely stopped

There are neither coca plantations nor drug laboratories in Venezuela, and drug transit through the country’s territory will soon be completely stopped, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro stated this during a broadcast on Venezolana de Televisión, APA reports.

He noted that 87 percent of cocaine shipments from South America are transported across the Pacific Ocean from Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, while 8 percent is routed through the Caribbean coast of Colombia’s La Guajira department.

Only 5 percent of drugs are attempted to be smuggled through Venezuelan territory, of which 70 percent are intercepted.

Maduro added that in recent years, 402 aircraft used for drug trafficking have been neutralized, and that drug transit through the country will soon be completely stopped.
