Baku-APA. At a meeting with Vuc Jeremic, foreign minister of Serbia on Thursday, UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon voiced his concern over a recent attack in Kosovo, according to a readout released here, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

"The secretary-general expressed his concern over the unexpected action that led to the deterioration of the situation in northern Kosovo," said the readout. "He stressed the importance of all actors refraining from any actions that could exacerbate the situation and for them to work toward a solution acceptable to all concerned, in conformity with Security Council Resolution 1244. "

On Wednesday evening, ethnic Serbs attacked and set fire to a security post on Kosovo’s northern border with Serbia. The attack followed an incident on Tuesday where Kosovo leader Hashim Thaci sent police to take over two disputed border crossings.

Resolution 1244, passed in June 1999, brought Kosovo under UN authority and established in the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

The readout said that Ban echoes the Serbian president’s call for calm.

"He welcomed Serbian President Boris Tadic’s call for calm and the message that his country remains committed to resolving existing problems between Belgrade and Pristina through dialogue," it said.
