Canadian PM condemns attacks in Norway

Baku-APA. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper condemned on Friday the large explosion in the Norwegian capital city of Oslo and subsequent shooting in a nearby small island, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"I was shocked and intensely saddened to learn of the attacks in Oslo and Utoya today," Harper said in a statement.

He said that they were also horrified to learn that a gunman has opened fire at a youth camp at Utoya.

He expressed their deeply regret to the loss of life and injuries and sincere condolences to Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and to the Norwegian people.

A huge bomb explosion occurred Friday in the government quarters in downtown Oslo, where the Prime Minister’s Office and other government offices are located, leaving at least seven people killed and 16 others injured.

In an apparently related incident, a deadly shooting happened in the same day at Utoya, an island 40 kilometers west of Oslo. Local police had confirmed that at least 10 people killed in the shooting attack.
