After a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, Obama said "our hearts" go to the people of Norway, pledging to provide support to the investigation.

He said the attacks are a reminder that the whole world has "a stake" in stopping this kind of terror from happening.

"We have to work cooperatively together on intelligence and in terms of prevention of these kinds of horrible attacks," Obama said.

At least seven people have been confirmed dead and several others severely injured in a huge bomb explosion in downtown Oslo on Friday, local police said.

In an apparently related incident, a deadly shooting happened in the same day at Utoeya, an island south of Oslo where the ruling party’s youth camp has been held. Some reports said a large number of bodies were seen at the scene, but police said they could not confirm any casualties yet.
