Former State Secretary Eagleburger dies

Baku-APA. Former US Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, who served under George H.W. Bush, and worked for both the Democrats and the Republicans, has passed away, APA reports quoting Press TV.

Eagleburger was the head of the State Department from August 1992 to January 1993. His diplomatic career, however, covered eight presidents. He died after â€œa short illnessâ€ on Saturday at the age of 80.

US President Barack Obama expressed in a statement on Saturday how Eagleburger had â€œhelped our nation navigate the pivotal days during the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War,â€ as he served as Deputy Secretary of State during that time.

Eagleburger began his governmental career in 1957 as he joined the US Foreign Service.

In 2006 he joined the Iraq Study Group to give policy recommendations for the US-led Iraq War.
