Mexico sending troops to violent northern area

Baku â€“ APA. Mexico’s government is sending hundreds of soldiers and federal police to a northern region where drug cartel violence has been on the rise and a prominent businessman was recently killed, APA reports quoting â€œAssociated Pressâ€.
The Interior Department says the forces are going to the Comarca Lagunera area straddling Coahuila and Durango states.
The statement issued Friday does not say how many soldiers and police will be deployed, but an Interior Department official says there will be hundreds. The official insisted on anonymity because he spoke before the official announcement was made.
Interior Secretary Francisco Blake discussed security with the governors of both states earlier this week, urging them to root out corruption in state and municipal police forces.
