2 killed in Sierra Leone Ebola outbreaks

Baku-APA. Ebola outbreaks in Sierra Leone have caused two deaths, with seven confirmed cases, three probable and 26 suspected cases, according to a situation report released by the country's Ministry of Health and Sanitation on Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The Kissi Teng and Kossi Tongay chiefdoms in the Kailahun Districts in the east of Sierra Leone have 23 suspected cases, one in Kono and two in Freetown, the capital of the country.

Medical tents have already been allocated to the Kenema Government Hospital. "Additional surveillance officers and logistics are on their way from the capital to support ongoing operations in the Kailahun and Kenema Districts," the Public Relations Director of the Ministry of Health Abbas Kamara told Xinhua.

He disclosed that "external assistance has come in from the British Department for International Development (DFID), Irish Aid, and the World Health Organization (WHO)."

Kamara said the ministry and its partners had now established an emergency center at Koindu in the Kailahun district so that suspected patients would no longer be transferred to Kenema's hospitals for testing.

Discussions are taking place in the affected areas led by Minister of Health Miatta Kargbo, together with other government officials from the area and stakeholders "to stop all body contact with people so that transmission could be minimized," according to Kamara.
