Israeli court sentences Palestinian 25 years for planting bomb on bus

Baku-APA. An Israeli court sentenced a Palestinian man to 25 years in prison on Monday for placing an explosive on a Tel Aviv bus in November 2012, the Tel Aviv District Court Authority announced in a statement, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Muhammad Mafarji, 19, was found guilty of placing a bomb on a Tel Aviv bus in November 2012, amid the final days of Israel's Pillar of Defense military operation in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Twenty eight people were injured in various degrees due to the attack.

Mafarji was convicted of attempted murder, an attempt to aid the enemy at wartime, causing the explosion and aggravated sabotage.

The defendant holds an Israeli citizenship and grew up in the Arab village of Tayibe in central Israel.

In his confession to the Shin Bet Security forces, he said his motivation for the attack was to assist Hamas in the Gaza Strip amid the operation and avenge the death of Hamas military leader Ahmed Jabri which sparked the military escalation leading to the operation.

The Shin Bet also apprehended another 13 suspects for their suspected involvement in the attack.
