An international scientific-practical conference dedicated to Azerbaijani thinker and scholar Sheikh Seyid Yahya Bakuvi has been held in Baku, APA reports.
The conference was organized within the framework of the 7th Meeting of Muslim Religious Leaders of the Organization of Turkic States. Religious leaders, scholars, and intellectuals from the Turkic and Islamic worlds participated in the event.
The conference discussed the scientific, philosophical, and spiritual heritage of Sheikh Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, his role in the intellectual and Sufi tradition of the Islamic world, as well as the significance of his legacy for the modern era.
Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev said in his speech that the legacy of Sheikh Seyid Yahya Bakuvi is an important part of the common spiritual and intellectual heritage of the Turkic and Islamic worlds. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation, dialogue, and mutual understanding among religious institutions.
Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Mohamed Abdelsalam noted the importance of Bakuvi’s legacy in terms of promoting values such as peace, compassion, moderation, and human dignity. He stated that differences should be an opportunity for mutual understanding and cooperation, rather than confrontation and hatred.
It was also noted in the speech that Sheikh Seyid Yahya Bakuvi was one of the main sheikhs of the Khalwati order. Mohamed Abdelsalam said that Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb wished to visit Bakuvi’s grave.
Speakers at the conference emphasized the importance of conveying the legacy of Sheikh Seyid Yahya Bakuvi to the younger generation and promoting his ideas on science, spirituality, dialogue, and human solidarity in the modern era.
The event noted the importance of expanding cooperation aimed at preserving the rich religious and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and the Turkic-Islamic world and passing it on to future generations.
President of Türkiye's Presidency of Religious Affairs Safi Arpaguş said that common language, history, culture, and spiritual heritage are among the main values uniting the Turkic world. He emphasized the importance of passing the spiritual heritage inherited from ancestors on to future generations.
Safi Arpaguş noted that Seyid Yahya Shirvani is one of the important examples of the concept of moderation. According to him, moderation in Islam is not a passive middle path, but a high level of awareness, deep understanding, and strong moral discipline.
President of Türkiye's Presidency of Religious Affairs said that Seyid Yahya Shirvani attached great importance to science and devoted his life to educating people and enlightenment. He noted that Shirvani was engaged in scientific, spiritual guidance, and educational activities for forty years, trained thousands of students, and wrote works in Turkish, Arabic, and Persian.
Chairman of the State Committee on Religious Associations Ramin Mammadov said that thanks to the special attention paid by the Azerbaijani government to cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, as well as Azerbaijan’s hosting and support, close and effective contacts among member countries have become continuous.
The Committee chairman emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev’s statement, “We have one family, and that is the Turkic world,” is the main principle in the direction of spiritual and cultural integration, as in all other areas.
According to him, this political will and strategic vision make it necessary to elevate the spiritual partnership among Turkic states to a new stage.
Ramin Mammadov noted that one of the important steps in this direction was the holding of the first meeting of the heads of state institutions responsible for religious affairs of the OTS member countries in Shusha on June 30 of this year. He said that ensuring the systematic and consistent functioning of this platform and transforming relations into a traditional model of cooperation are among the main strategic priorities.
