“We will use all possible alternative energy solutions,” Vahid Hajiyev, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for the Jabrayil, Gubadli and Zangilan districts, said during the panel session on “Urbicide and its consequences” organized by UNDP within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
“By presidential decree, a Free Economic Zone with more than 19 residents has already been established in Jabrayil. This is one of the key factors for ensuring sustainable settlement in those territories. One of the important issues I would like to mention is sustainability and green energy. These territories have been declared a ‘green energy zone’ by the President of Azerbaijan. This means that we will use all possible alternative energy solutions. Solar panels are being installed on the roofs of residential houses and buildings. Taking into account the high solar energy potential of these territories, bp and other foreign investors have already begun implementing investment projects. Currently, a 240-megawatt solar power plant is under construction in Jabrayil, and additional 100-megawatt projects are also being implemented. In addition, we have five hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of around 45 megawatts. As can be seen, a fairly large energy potential is being created in these territories. This energy is sufficient to meet the needs of the entire Karabakh region, and the remaining part can already be sold and exported to other countries,” he noted.
