About 300 million people worldwide are homeless, said Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anacláudia Rossbach during a press briefing dedicated to the Thirteenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held within the framework of the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
“These people often lack access to clean water, basic infrastructure, healthcare and education services, as well as employment opportunities. Many of them do not even have an official address and often live in high-risk areas,” she said.
Rossbach noted that the main theme of WUF13 will be housing provision for safe and sustainable cities and communities.
“Ministers, representatives of local and regional governments, academia, and civil society will gather in Baku to discuss challenges, existing practices, and solutions related to housing and urban development,” she emphasized.
According to the head of UN-Habitat, progress achieved in the field of urban planning will be reviewed during the event, and discussions will also be held on future priorities.
She added that WUF13 will serve as an important platform for discussing global challenges related to urban development and for the exchange of experience among various partners.
