Fourteen Arab countries are facing water scarcity, UN-Habitat representative for Arab countries said during the session titled “Nature-Based Solutions for Sustainable Arab Cities: From Local Action to Urban Transformation” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
The representative noted that tensions have increased in the Arab region due to ongoing conflicts: “Land pollution is taking place in the region. Pressure on urban infrastructure is increasing. The region is experiencing water stress. Severe weather conditions and environmental degradation are occurring. This creates risks for the ecosystem. It also creates difficulties for living conditions and necessitates the use of sustainable nature-based solutions. This will both protect nature and prevent emerging risks, while restoring the ecosystem. This is a key part of our strategic plan for 2026-2029. We are establishing close cooperation with local communities to implement these approaches.”
