There are numerous problems and existing gaps that need to be addressed in the field of urban transformation, and these issues require a systematic approach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anacláudia Rossbach said during the forum titled “Rethinking Cultural Heritage and Inclusive Urban Regeneration” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

She stated that overcoming these challenges should be one of the main priorities of urban planning policy:

“When talking about the cities of the future, it is not enough to focus only on the future; it is also necessary to carefully examine past experiences and the lessons of historical urban development. Because a sustainable urban model is formed through balanced development that takes into account both modern approaches and historical context.

The United Nations must act as a unified family in addressing these issues, strengthen coordination among member states, and support the promotion of inclusive, fair, and sustainable approaches in the process of urban transformation.

We also view cultural heritage and its preservation as a separate direction of development. Preserving cultural heritage is not only about protecting the past, but also about shaping the identity of future cities. Cultural development is impossible without this component, and sustainable development likewise cannot be fully achieved without the preservation of cultural heritage,” she said.
