Participants of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku are discussing issues related to the future of cities in a spirit of resilience, determination and shared purpose, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anacláudia Rossbach said during the opening ceremony of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
“We have gathered in Baku today in a spirit of resilience. This is exactly what we want for cities as well: resilience, determination and a sense of shared purpose,” Anacláudia Rossbach noted.
According to her, despite the heavy rain and thunderstorms observed in Azerbaijan in recent days, the forum has been organized at a high level.
The head of UN-Habitat stated that against the backdrop of the climate crisis, conflicts and forced displacement, more than one billion people still live without access to basic services such as water, sanitation, electricity, decent jobs and education.
She emphasized that the main task facing cities today is to make decent housing accessible to everyone.
Anacláudia Rossbach added that in many cities, young people, the elderly, migrants and newcomers face difficulties in obtaining housing, while social inequality is deepening.
