The Baku Call to Action and the ministers’ final document prepared within the framework of WUF13 will serve as the main guiding documents on global urban development and housing policy over the next two years, Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), said during the roundtable titled “Translating urban commitments into national action: the parliamentary pathway to housing for all” organized within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, the 10-year midterm review of the New Urban Agenda will take place in New York on September 16-17 this year, and the position of parliaments will play an important role in this process.
Rossbach noted that it is incorrect to approach the housing issue solely from the perspective of construction, and that a systematic approach is required in this field.
“Housing policy is not only about building houses. It requires joint action by governments, parliaments, the private sector, local communities, and civil society,” she emphasized.
The head of UN-Habitat stated that the Baku Call to Action prepared within the framework of WUF13 is one of the forum’s main outcome documents and, together with the ministers’ final declaration, will serve as a roadmap for future activities.
According to her, these documents will define the main framework for activities to be carried out until WUF14, which will be held in Mexico in two years.
Rossbach added that the scale of the global housing crisis is so large that coordinated and systematic cooperation among all parties is essential to resolve it.
