"The world is becoming increasingly interconnected through data, people, and businesses," said Executive Director of the UN-Habitat Anacláudia Rossbach during a special session titled “Cities at the Center of Connectivity: Urban Reconstruction and Regional Cooperation,” held within the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF13), APA reports.
She said that all regions are being reshaped through new transformative technologies, alternative networks, and infrastructure.
“Nevertheless, approximately 2.8 billion people are deprived of access to safe and adequate housing. Millions more have been displaced due to conflict and hunger. Today, the world is more connected than ever before. But at the same time, it is often more unequal than necessary,” Anaklaudia Rossbach noted.
Rossbach added that without inclusivity and a broader socio-economic perspective, connectivity risks turning into underfunded infrastructure that deepens inequality.
“Multimodal corridors ensure more efficient transportation of goods and people. They are reshaping the economic geography of entire regions,” Anaklaudia Rossbach emphasized.
