"The Turkic world forms a dynamic urban space stretching from Central Asia to the Caucasus and Europe. However, our cities are facing complex problems such as rapid population growth, unplanned urbanization, environmental pollution and social inequality," Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev said at the High-Level Urban Dialogue of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA reports.
He noted that climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, energy efficiency and sustainable transport should stand at the center of future regional initiatives: “This vision is already becoming a reality in our region. For example, there are ‘smart city’ and ‘smart village’ projects in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, the high-tech development model of Alatau city in Kazakhstan, and digital monitoring systems for sustainable mountain urbanization in Kyrgyzstan. Today, we also see these initiatives at the pavilions of member states. Through the memorandum we signed today, we are creating an official framework for technical cooperation. This document is also a continuation of the cooperation agreement signed with UN-Habitat in 2023. This morning, I had a very productive meeting with Anaclaudia Rossbach. We agreed on a new cooperation plan for 2026–2027. This action plan covers strengthening technical capacity, implementing the New Urban Agenda and preserving sustainable urban heritage in the Turkic world.”
