“Currently, nearly 1 billion people do not have official housing registration, and this is a serious problem," Aziza Akmouch, Head of the Cities, Urban Policies and Sustainable Development Division of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), said at the session titled “From Policy to Impact: Delivering Housing at Scale” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
She stated that the main topic discussed in Baku is the housing shortage and ways to solve it:
“From an economic point of view, we see that there is a serious shortage in housing provision. This is also related to the development of new geographies. The main topic we are discussing in Baku today is the housing shortage and ways to solve it.
One in every two people in the world has difficulty finding suitable housing. This is a serious issue on a global scale and should receive more attention from the international community.”
Aziza Akmouch noted that there are currently difficulties related to housing provision in 37 countries and there is insufficient coordination in this field: “The housing issue should be a priority issue for states. This is a matter that falls on governments and states,” she emphasized.
