The restoration projects implemented in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur are forming a new model for modern and sustainable urban planning, Nigar Mammadova, member of the Milli Majlis, said during the roundtable titled “Parliamentarians: Translating Urban Commitments into National Action – The Parliamentary Path to Housing for All” held within the framework of WUF13.
According to her, access to housing is one of the most serious challenges in the world, and rapid urbanization, climate change, rising construction costs and pressure on infrastructure create new tasks for governance.
Nigar Mammadova noted that the reconstruction projects implemented by Azerbaijan in the liberated territories demonstrate important experience in this field.
The parliamentarian stated that the “smart city” and “smart village” concepts, green energy solutions and digital governance systems show how the cities of the future can be built.
She added that the development of the Middle Corridor accelerates new urban and economic transformation processes in the region, expands trade opportunities and strengthens international cooperation.
According to Nigar Mammadova, the main mission of parliaments is to create a strong legal framework for sustainable housing policy, promote inclusive urban development, protect social justice and support decisions ensuring environmental safety.
She stressed that it is possible to build a stronger economy and a more stable society if safe, accessible and sustainable housing is ensured.
