Poverty limits people’s access to essential services, and housing is one of the key elements of social stability, Adib Benbrahim, State Secretary for Housing Affairs at the Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy of the Kingdom of Morocco, said during the panel discussion titled “Housing for Social Inclusion and Poverty Eradication” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
“Today, housing costs account for a large share of middle-income citizens’ earnings, reducing people’s ability to meet daily needs such as healthcare and education,” he emphasized.
According to the Moroccan official, housing policy has been defined as one of the country’s state priorities: “Housing is one of the main tools for reducing poverty.”
The minister added that within the framework of a public-private partnership social housing program implemented in the country, housing units have been provided for 720,000 families.
During the panel, he also stressed that long-term planning and innovative financing mechanisms are of particular importance in ensuring social inclusivity through state policy.
According to him, housing is not only a matter of accommodation, but also one of the key conditions for economic and social integration.
