The consequences of climate change are being felt all over the world, Rashad Ismayilov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources said during the session titled “Strategic Environmental Assessment Tool for Achieving Climate Targets in Urban Planning” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He stated that these processes must constantly remain in focus:
“Our cities are also exposed to the impact of these events. The development of cities and ensuring settlement should no longer be planned solely on the basis of economic indicators, but also taking into account the principles of environmental protection, social welfare and climate resilience. This is already a necessity of today.
Drought, water scarcity, extreme natural events, forest fires, floods, rising sea levels, reduction of inland water bodies, melting glaciers, as well as land degradation and biodiversity loss are among the clearest examples of these impacts,” he added.
